MK 3 Soft Top+ Condensation

Postby Carrie » Tue Dec 27, 2016 11:30 am

OK Guys having been the proud owner of a MK3 Soft top for a Dizzy 4 months and loving every minute of driving it. Do any of you have any tips on how to stop the condensation accumulating on the inside of the car. I have tried battling with a full sized cover but its impractical on dark wet windy nights. Please don't say put it in the garage there isn't room and my little car is an every day car.

Also is it just my car or does it take ages for the mist to vanish once the heating/fan/air blower is on

Help much appreciated.

My car tends to do this too. Wet air gets easily trapped inside the car, so a garage or cover is unlikely to make any difference.

The only way I can see to get rid of it is to put a moisture trap (or bag of cat litter) or dehumidifier in the car. Even putting the roof down and turning the heating full on doesn't solve the problem.

The blower isn't great. Mine pushes out cold air to start with, so does nothing to clear the screen. The best solution seems to be a an anti-fog treatment, but mine;s finally worn off.

The cat litter trick is a easy one to do.
Fill an old sock with it (make sure you tie the end off  )then place it under a seat or just leave it on the dash. etc when you get out.
Change it when you feel the condensation is becoming a issue again.

My Z3 is just the same ......
I now run a 240v fan heater inside the car via an extension lead from the garage on a timer.

If you have air con, stick it on for the first few minutes until it clears. If it is damp and raining use it all the time, keeps the whole inside clear, side window as well.

It takes ages for the air con to warm up though :( I checked the water temp gauge on mine, yesterday, and it took about 2 miles to get off the bottom line.

It's a real shame that Mazda didn't license Ford's heated front window when they were swapping engine designs.

I meant one of those fancy front windscreens with a (near) invisible heater element built into it.

That's what I meant too. Don't you have one?
