thats small ...couldnt even see it.

This club makes no money, so cannot profit from it. I would be more worried about them taking pictures of me without my consent and then selling it to me for extravagant cost

This is a copyright image belonging to Jocken from Frozen Speed, I also own the high res image along with some others.

The other image I believe was taken by Matt or Piers or another friend. I think you are just looking at the reflection of the track, however, if it is thought ot be a problem, that is ok.

I'm sorry to be picky about it, but as a photographer who has had images stolen (currently going through small claims process to get my fee for them) I try to look out for other photographers, in most cases if you ask you will get them...

As a total aside, that really pisses me off. Copyright that is. As an engineer, any design created is public domain, we the company you work has the rights, but if you want to protect it you have to go through the ridiculously long and costly Patent process which takes years and many thousands of pounds, you have to prove novelty and show every competitor what you have come up with first. No one thinks twice about copying what Mazda or any other design process for their benefit, but take a picture and the Luvy arteests who write two words, or take a picture get the whole bloody copyright law to jump to defend them for free.

Yeah, well kinda, patents are very easy to get(at least in the US) and the patent office there seems to just accept patents without any checking. It's a big problem in software where people just randomly patent software algorithms with no notice of prior art, there are loads of examples of totally ridiculous patents, take Amazon One Click(tm).

The US is alone in the world in that it has a different patent procedure to everybody else.
As I actually hold patents in my name, I can't however agree that it's easy to get anywhere. You need a Priority Filing date, a novalty search £££££££, and proof of novalty before you can even think about a patent.

Im interested in this, what if you buy the photographs of your car on dvd from them, do you then own the rights to them? I have never signed anything agreeing to let people take pictures of my car? surely they have to have permission from the owner to place it on there own website?

its a heads and tails situation in my opinion :?

As far as I know, once you buy them, you own the photo for personal use, but cannot use it to make money. ie, you can't sell it on etc.

Usually, if you speak to the photographer, they are happy to let you use them as long as you credit them for it.

Much like a DVD - you own it, but can't use it for public broadcasting and so fourth.

Matt is correct, you buy the right to use the image/video, very few photographers would sell the copyrights to their images.

You only need a signed model release if the image is of someone/thing recognisable and it is going to be used for a commercial purpose, as opposed to art/editorial/personal use. For instance a picture to go in a story in STHT would not need a model release but if that same picture was to be used in an advert for company XYZ in STHT it would need a property release from the car's owner and a model release from any identifiable person in the picture...

I mainly shoot snowboarding, but am hopefully going to shoot a bit of motorsport stuff this year. Some of my stuff is on Flickr
