As in with rules and nothing can be added there until it has been checked like on nutz? I guess that makes sense and thats the trade off. We just need to consider if its really worth all the work involved.

I seem to have lost the plot on this one, Fellahs. The last time this happened I thought there was a consensus that it is good for people to advertise here, after all, we may have members that have not yet bought a car and are looking for one. If someone has an MX5 related item for sale, isn't it a good point that they offer it to MX5 enthusiasts first?

Yannow.... There's no real harm to the occasional for sale post as a first post. There's no rule against it.

But......

It always seems a shame that the owner missed out on all the P5 fun before they decided to sell up.

It always seems a shame our 'resources' were only sought out when we could be used for a free advert.

It always seems a shame when the post doesn't acknowledge any of that.

If I was doing it I would post differently. I'd introduce myself. Tell people a bit about me. Then in the same post advertise the car.

I'd treat it like getting to know strangers in the 'real world' you wouldn't walk into a pub, up to a bunch of strangers, and launch straight into a sales pitch.

In conclusion, there are no rules against it. We don't plan to ever add rules against it. But whenever it happens it always makes me, personally, feel a bit sad and a tiny bit used.

No more discussion on this poor chaps sale thread please everyone. Let's draw a veil on that conversation and help this car to to a new home. Who knows, the next owner might bring it out to play with us!

I apologise if me posting the car has upset people on here just thought this would be the best place. Unfortunately im part of a few forums/clubs and find it hard to get time to post on all of them, it's !a shame some of the members on here have an issue as this could put of potential new members

Worst. Apology. Ever.

You are new here, so let me explain..... When the thee headed hell dog says "No more discussion on this thread please". It means stop or I will lock the thread.

For your further clarification......

O) You are welcome to make a for sale post as your first post.
O) Other members are welcome to feel a bit peeved by you doing this. It's not a shame. It's their right to do so.
O) If this puts off potential new members then so be it. Everyone has free will and I trust them to make their own decisions.

Further commentary on this thread, by any member, which is not directly related to the sale of this vehicle, will result in this thread being locked.

Good luck with your sale.

I thought that this was an MX5 owners club, your attitude will not bring in more members, if fact this high and mighty attitude is going to drive potential new member away.

Your last comment,
O) If this puts off potential new members then so be it. Everyone has free will and I trust them to make their own decisions.

Is this your decision or P5 decision, can't think it would be the MX5OC's ?

This will not only drive new members away but some old ones also.

Now lock the thread if you must.

In reply I said - "If this puts off potential new members then so be it. Everyone has free will and I trust them to make their own decisions."

If members of P5's being miffed about opening posts being sale threads puts off new members then what can I do about it? Are they not entitled to their opinion? Should I delete
their posts if they express that opinion? What is wrong with trusting potential members to make their own informed decision?

I'm actually not going to lock the thread because I'd be interested in your thoughts and those of any other members. New, Potential, or Long Standing.

I think everyone needs to get back on the prozac

First post = for sale post is either in or out of the rules, there is no 'discussion' to be had, imo.

if it is in the rules then that's it! If the person selling then turns out to be a plum, then have your fun with them, but other than that, live and let live (all IMO, obviously)

This is a community of the loose 'internet' variety, not some sort of hippy commune in the outer hebrides where a 'good fit' is essential. It does no harm for people to float in and out, as long as the P5 message gets spread far and wide, that's all good, isn't it?

Forced group hug tomorrow people, we will not have sad faces around here, capiche :troll:
