The Abarth hospitality unit will be present and Mazda have promised one of the 20th anniversary race cars.

Rockingham is a great modern circuit located in Corby, Northamptonshire and was the first purpose built circuit since Brooklands in 1907 and the venue for the recent Ma5da Racing race which many Mazda owners went to.

Although this is primarily an open pit lane event, to ensure there is plenty for everyone novice, advanced and ladies sessions will be offered at selected times throughout the day.

This exclusive day is offered at £199 per car and second driver / passenger with discounts for MoTDC members. Additional drivers are welcome at a small extra charge.

First tuition session will be free to novices.

For those of you that read STHT, the Mazda driver will be Nick Leason, who was the Brit Car Driver in the MX5.

If you really want to shake things up, the Abarth driver will be BTCC driver Mark Ticehurst.

Go on, you don't get chances like this very often!

Please don't put pretty pictures up of races tracks on here when I can't afford to do the days. Stupid fillings and dentist fees!!! And my MOT is due next week...and my tax next month. Bloody hell.

Decided to give this a miss due to my inexperience. After speaking to some guys at the meet recently I'm going to try a control day in december when I'm off work, still gutting I'm not going tho!

You don't have to do a Car Control Day before going on a trackday. Everyone starts somewhere. Rockingham is as safe a track as they come, I have only ever seen one accident there and that was a TVR!
We will have some of the best instructors in the country there and that is free, and a lot of Fiat 500's running round too.

We will also have some parade laps at lunch time for those that are there and not on track.

This will be my first trackday, I have a standard powered 1.6 and I don't consider myself to be a particularly good driver... but I've been waiting all summer for "the right trackday" to come along, and I refuse to let the whole year disappear without giving it a go!

Botttom line is, you need to jump in sometime, and at an open pitlane trackday you will get so much more time in the car. I'm sure my learning curve will be steep, which is exactly what I need! I'll report back afterwards unless I'm awful / crash, in which case I'm sure Nick will fill you all in!!

Ha ha, Thanks for the vote of confidence... which matches my own!!

Done some sums and the Abarth 500s are 131bhp/tonne, my car is 119bhp/tonne... Shame as I was quite literally hoping for this ... :500:

I'm guessing the MX5s can outcorner them though? at least I hope I can with my new tyres... although with the weather forecast, I'll be using my winter wheels with their ditchfinders, so it could be an interesting day!!!

You'll all be fine! Just watch out at turn 3 (Yentwood) it gets slippery if its wet. That said, even if you manage to spin it, you'll struggle to hit anything!

Cheers for the info, I keep looking at the weather and it says sunny intervals for friday... hope it stays that way as it also says heavy rain overnight!

I'm guessing if it is raining on the day, then my standard road tyres will be better than the wider R888s?
